Tips, help us to help you.
These tips are intended to help us to present your needlework to its best potential. We know how much time you have invested to produce your needlework so it is a shame not to get the most out of your finished piece of art work.
Marks on Material:
Any marks on your canvas such as stains or marks left by embroidery rings will always show up more after stretching. They can be safely removed by hand washing with a weak solution of any gentle liquid soap.
Loose Ends:
Loose ends on cross-stitch & samplers will show through, especially dark threads behind a light canvas.Always tie off threads& trim closely or better still thread the ends of the silk behind stitches on the back of canvas.
Carrying threads:
Never carry a thread from one section of work to another across an area of blank canvas.as this will show through on the finished work. Always tie off and start again on a new area or work.
Salvage:
Always try to leave a minimum of 1" of salvage, 1 !/2" (4cm) is ideal. This will assist us to stretch your work properly.
Folding Canvas:
Try not to fold large canvases even when you are working on them. The fold will tend to pick up marks, even from just handling, which will show up on the item. The best way of storing and transporting your canvas is to wrap it around a cardboard tube using a piece of tissue paper.
